Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £250M and nearly 1000 staff, with 300 in the UK.

 

The Manufacturing Engineering CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, validating and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programmes to support the manufacture of high-precision aerospace and defence components. The role ensures dimensional verification is accurate, efficient and compliant with customer, regulatory and internal quality requirements.

 

Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Design Engineering and Production, the CMM Programmer will optimise inspection strategies, reduce inspection cycle times and support the industrialisation of new products while maintaining the highest levels of quality and process capability.
A key requirement of this role is extensive experience programming LK Metrology CMMs and a thorough understanding of precision metrology within a highly regulated manufacturing environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, validate and optimise CMM inspection programmes for LK Metrology CMMs using the appropriate programming software.
• Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and/or ISO GPS standards.
• Produce robust inspection routines that ensure repeatability, reproducibility and efficient measurement of precision components.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by developing inspection strategies during product industrialisation.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure inspection capability is incorporated into manufacturing processes from the earliest design stages.
• Reduce inspection cycle times through continuous improvement while maintaining measurement integrity.
• Investigate dimensional non-conformances and support root cause analysis using structured problem-solving techniques.
• Validate first-off components and support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 where applicable.
• Create and maintain inspection documentation, reports and work instructions.
• Ensure CMM programmes are configuration controlled and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
• Provide technical support to Quality Engineers, Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
• Assist with Gauge R&R studies, MSA activities and capability studies.
• Support calibration activities and ensure measurement equipment remains compliant with applicable standards.
• Identify opportunities for automation and digitalisation of inspection processes.
• Ensure all activities comply with company Quality Management Systems, EN9100 requirements and defence industry standards.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to inspectors and junior engineers where required.

Experience and Background

Qualifications:
• Essential Qualifications
• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Formal training in Coordinate Metrology and CMM programming.
• Demonstrable expertise in LK Metrology inspection systems.

• Significant experience programming LK Metrology Coordinate Measuring Machines within a precision manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of precision metrology principles.
• Experience programming complex 3D inspection routines from CAD models.
• Excellent understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defence or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
• Knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering processes and inspection planning.
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction and manufacturing process validation.
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience of statistical process control and measurement system analysis.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Desirable Experience
• Experience with PC-DMIS, CAMIO or other advanced metrology software.
• Knowledge of CAD software such as Siemens NX, CATIA or SolidWorks.
• Experience using MRP/ERP systems such as SAP or Tropos.
• Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent.
• Knowledge of AS9100/EN9100 Quality Management Systems.
• Experience working with explosive or energetic materials manufacturing environments.
• Understanding of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
