08.00-16.30 Monday to Thursday (30mns lunch break)
08.00-13.00 Friday (no lunch break)

Roxel is an Anglo-French company that designs, develops and manufactures solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £100M and nearly 700 staff.

 

The UK operations are entirely based at Summerfield, Kidderminster, where we have a vacancy for a Stress Engineer.

 

The design department designs new and modified rocket motors and related systems. Analysis of rocket motor designs, including: Ballistic performance prediction and modelling, propellant charge and hardware stress analysis, and the provision of documentation service. Maintenance of design manuals and similar knowledge databases

 

The role holder conducts stress analysis duties

 

The role holder is the structural technical authority for several rocket motor products. Specific areas of work will mainly include conducting Finite Element Analysis (baseline software is Abaqus) of rocket motor hardware (metals, rubber/rigid insulants, bondlines) and the energetic propellant charge. Therefore, knowledge of material science and engineering would be advantageous, including non-linear viscoelasticity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Responsibilities

• Analysis of new and existing rocket motor systems such as motor hardware and propellant charge structural and thermal analysis using FEA software.
• The use of various software and programming techniques, including: Abaqus, Altair-Hyperworks, Fortran and Matlab.
• Rheological analysis of material testing results and providing advice to the technical community for validation and verification of FEA models.
• Development of motor structural test plans and involvement in the delivery and assessment of the structural testing results.
• Responsible as the structural performance technical authority aspects of assigned projects, including supporting project customer meetings, project investigations, design reviews, and corresponding customer stress engineers.
• Deliver key project documentation including, structural analysis and structural test plans and reports and structural design records.
• Contribution to qualifications report using expert knowledge.
• Responsible for keeping updated with industry technical innovations and changes, building on their expertise, and acting as the technical lead of new technology research programmes, and the on-time delivery and cost of the programme and interfacing with the customer.
• Schedule, plan and prioritise their work and time to ensure on time delivery of tasks.
• Responsible for the update and maintenance of job list and the associated on-time delivery metric.
• Identify risks and issues that may impact delivery, including time, quality and cost, and communicate solutions with the Design Manager.
• Any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with the main duties outlined above.

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND

Qualification

• Essential Qualifications
Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural or another related discipline such as Material Science.

 

Experience

• Essential Experience
Use of ABAQUS software in an professional or academic environment.
Proficiency with the Microsoft office package, particularly Word, Excel and Access.

 

• Desirable Experience
Material science knowledge (In particular composites, viscoelastic materials, adhesives)
Experience with CAD modelling and Altair-Hyperworks
