Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £250M and nearly 1000 staff, with 300 in the UK.
The UK operations are entirely based at Summerfield, Kidderminster where we now have a requirement for a Materials and Production Planner.
The Material and Production Planner is responsible for ensuring materials are available to meet production schedules while maintaining efficient stock levels. The role requires the balance of tactical material ordering and strategic production scheduling, ensuring availability of parts whilst maximising manufacturing efficiency. It combines daily MRP planning activities with purchasing responsibilities, including placing orders, liaising with suppliers, monitoring delivery performance and managing material obsolescence to minimise cost and waste.
Further it involves developing, maintaining and optimising production schedules to balance customer demand with resource capacity as well as managing any concerns impacting production schedules, such as timely clearance of NCF’s and ensuring the availability of Production Permits (PPs) and other documentation to support. Also to manage inventory levels, shelf lifes, optimise material flow and maintain accurate system data to support efficient supply chain operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure parts and materials are available to support production plans in all areas of manufacturing but running & maintained the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system.
2. Manage procurement of raw materials, components and consumables in line with production planning schedules and lead times.
3. Raise and manage purchase orders with suppliers in line with lead times and inventory policies, liaise closely with suppliers to track deliveries, resolve shortages & expedite where necessary and liaise with Procurement, Quality and other departments as required to resolve any supply issues.
4. Create and maintain short- and medium-term production schedules in line with the Master Production Schedule, monitoring production performance and adjusting as required to maintain delivery commitments.
5. Maintain master data parameter accuracy in the MRP systems to ensure parts and materials are scheduled to include time necessary for internal testing and quality assurance etc.
6. Ensure that materials with a shelf life are maintained and available as required co-ordinating re-lifing (via Material Technical Authorities) or purchase as required.
7. Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or excess inventory. Review slow-moving, excess and obsolete stock regularly and propose actions. Support new product launches and phase-outs, ensuring smooth transition of materials.
8. Work closely with Logistics to ensure inventory is appropriately identified, labelled and placed into stock in accordance with standard operating processes.
9. Develop relationships with production and other necessary support departments to ensure that information is available to support the effective management of the business.
10. Support cycle counting & annual stock takes as required and maintain data accuracy and integrity.
11. Generate and analyse planning reports to support decision making. Providing accurate and timely management reporting of KPIs. Continually seek improvements relative to inventory and supply. Make recommendations and implement actions designed to reduce costs and improve methods that are effective and capable of supporting business requirements.
12. Provide on-the-job training, coaching and best practice guidance in a mentoring capacity to other members of the team such as the Production Planners and Materials Planners.
13. Ensure Health and Safety standards for all incoming materials are fully communicated and understood by relevant stakeholders.
14. Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety requirements associated with the role, following the SWIM process when require highlighting concerns.
15. Additional responsibilities and projects as required by the business.
Experience and Background
Qualification:
Essential Qualifications
o A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (must include Maths and English) or equivalent.
o A Level 3 qualification such as a A Level or equivalent.
o IT Literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word and Outlook) and MRP Systems (Tropos or other in-house systems would be desirable)
Desirable Qualifications
o Vocational qualification at Level 3 or above such as CIPS, CILT, APICS, IOSCM or equivalent.
Experience:
Essential Experience
o Significant experience in a Materials and / or Production Planning role within a manufacturing environment with strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
o Proven ability to manage complex BOM’s, long lead times and multi-stage manufacturing processes.
o Demonstratable experience of working in a Key User or Superuser role with an MRP and / or ERP System (Tropos would be an advantage).
o Excellent organisational and time management skills.
o Extensive experience of working in a material planning function.
Desirable Experience
o Experience of managing within a EN9100 or Quality Management System culture.
o Able to demonstrate experience of providing a positive contribution in driving change.
o Able to demonstrate experience of Continuous Improvement including the ability to analyse route cause of issues and the ability to develop pragmatic solutions.
