Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £130M and near 1000 staff.

 

The Nitration Officer responsibilities oversee the Manufacturing of Nitro-glycerine ensuring it is produced in a safe and controlled manner, on time, on cost and on quality. The role holder is responsible for the health and welfare of the operators within the team as well as their training and development. With overall aim to produce a product that meets the customers’ requirements as well as meeting relevant industry and business critical standards both in production and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, delegate and monitor the activities of the team to ensure delivery of work and targets in a timely, quality and cost-effective manner, ensuring safety at all times.
  • Train and develop team members, ensuring PDR’s, performance reviews and skills matrix are conducted and updated.
  • Understand and develop into the technical authority and material controller for the department.
  • Ensure all materials comply with current standards including plant analysis of manufactured products.
  • Involvement in resource control, supplier control, stock control.
  • Support HSE audits, EN9100, quality management both internally and externally.
  • Ensure PPE is available and to the correct standard, relevant reporting and tracking required.
  • Attend and actively contribute to business wide meeting where and when required.
  • Update and compile written documentation of processes and configure.
  • Carry out Risk and CoSHH assessments.
  • Support the configuration of the COMAH safety report and offer continuous improvement to the processes.
  • Collate and update monthly KPI, measures and data, report and present.
  • Conduct QRQC meetings and apply standards.
  • Maintain 6S standards across the plant.
  • Raise shire request and follow up status.
  • Develop understanding of a chemical processing plant and progress training and sign off on all stages.
  • Raise and close out safety reports.
  • Additional duties or tasks as requested by business requirements.

Skills/ Qualifications

  • Essential Qualifications
    • 5 GCSE’s at level 4 or above or equivalent (incl Maths & English).
    • Degree in science or engineering discipline, ideally Chemical Engineering or Chemistry – or HNC/HND working towards a degree.

 

  • Desirable Qualifications
    • An IOSH Managing Safely Qualification or willingness to work towards.
    • A minimum level of Green Belt qualification or equivalent in Lean Manufacturing Techniques or willingness to work towards.

 

  • Essential Previous Proven Experience
    • Can demonstrate previous proven experience of working within a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
    • Strong IT competencies with experience of working with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word and Outlook) and MRP/ MES Systems.
    • Can demonstrate leadership experience.

 

 

  • Desirable Experience
    • Managing within a Lean Culture e.g. SQCDPI techniques, Kaizen, Kanban, 7 waste principles.
    • Worked within a strong Health and Safety environment, carrying out Risk and COSHH Assessments.
    • Experience of working within a COMAH environment.
    • Experience working in the petrochemical or oil and gas industry.
    • Managing within an EN9100 or Quality Management System culture.
