Insensitive Munitions (also called IM – or Murat in French) are munitions to which, when subject to physical or mechanical aggressions, the probability of untimely initiating as well as the violence of the reaction and the collateral damages resulting there from have been reduced.
While being safer, IM continue to satisfy performance, availability and use conditions.
The main objectives are:
- to improve the survival capacity of combat platform in peace, crisis or conflict times;
- increase the flexibility of use during logistic and tactical phase;
- provide the superiority given by an increased confidence in munitions which are safer in all circumstances.
Continuing technical challenges:
Roxel has a world lead in IM technology and is active in developing positive solutions.
As such, Roxel has a proven capability of designing systems to pass the following aggressions:
- bullet impact
- fast cook off
- slow cook off
- fragment impact
- sympathetic detonation
- safety drops
Roxel’s input in IM technology is demonstrated through the ASRAAM and Seawolf boost motor systems fielded into service. The ASRAAM rocket motor has the highest IM rating for any missile.
